October 7, 2003

Fellow Members,

The October 13, 2003 meeting of the Peters Colony Historical Society begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Carrollton Public Library at Frankford Village, 3030 N. Josey Lane at Frankford Road.

We are in for a real treat this month. Ms. Frances James, known as the Cemetery Lady, is a noted local authority. Her program is titled History As Seen Through the Cemeteries of North Dallas. Frances has worked diligently to locate, rescue, clean up, and preserve the cemeteries of Dallas County. She is a wonderful advocate for our local cemeteries and is a very interesting person. Im sure we will all enjoy her program.

Jan attended the October meeting of the Denton County Historical Commission for a presentation by Dr. Georgia Caraway & Kim Cupit. Dr. Caraway or Ms. Cupit may make a short announcement at our meeting about Denton Countys Communities History project with a request to those of you who have Denton County roots.

As part of this years festivities, Irving dedicated the new Centennial Park this past weekend. Jan and I enjoyed a fun evening of celebration. If you have an interest in Irvings history, you may want to visit the history wall in the park located just south of the central library on Irving Blvd. Bill Marquis, a previous PCHS presenter, built a Dog-Run Cabin for the park.

Ann Perdue has received several articles for our 2004 issue of Elm Fork Echoes. The other officers and I hope that you will put pen to paper and record a few lines about your ancestors. This is a call for articles, photographs, and other items that can be included in the next Echoes.

Mark and reserve November 10, 2003 on your calendar. Ted Mayes will present a program and slide show on Cotton Farming.

Warmly and sincerely,

Richard Monroe

President, Peters Colony Historical Society
