May 3, 2004 Fellow Members, Our next meeting will be Monday, May 10, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. at the Carrollton Justice Center at 2001 E. Jackson Rd. at the old library building at the northeast corner of Josey and Jackson. We are meeting here for this month only due to the special exhibit in the meeting room at the Josey Ranch Lake library. This month is our annual Show and Tell. Each member is invited to bring a photo or some type of memorabilia to the meeting and share a story about it. This is always a lot of fun. At our business meeting this month, we will install the 2004-2005 officers who were voted on in March. Elm Fork Echoes, our annual
publication, will be available for pickup at the meeting this month. Those
who do not attend the meeting will receive their copy in the mail later in
the month. Our April 12th, dedication of the A.W. Perry stained glass window in the Peggy Perry Oliver Genealogy & Local History room at the new Carrollton Public Library at Josey Ranch Lake was a great success. We had about 100 people in attendance who enjoyed the speakers, exhibits and refreshments. Dues for the 2004-2005 membership year are due in May. These may be turned in at the meeting or mailed to the address above. The society was saddened by the passing of Dick Cope in March, and Ray Ogle in April. Dick served as our treasurer for a number of years. Ray, a charter member, served as the societys historian. Both will be missed. We are considering sponsoring an oral interview day at the new Senior Center next to the Josey Ranch Lake library possibly during the summer. More details to come later. Our official 2004-2005 year will kick off on September 13, 2004. We hope you have a great summer! Warmly and sincerely, Richard Monroe President, Peters Colony Historical Society |
