September 6, 2004 Dear Fellow Members, Greetings. The 2004-2005 year is starting with a great lineup of programs and opportunities. Our meeting on Monday, September 13, 2004 will begin at 7 p.m. at the Carrollton Public Library at Josey Ranch Lake, 1700 Keller Springs Road, Carrollton, TX 75006 in the Environmental Classroom at the back near the Peggy Perry Oliver Genealogy & Local History room. Paula Perkins, past president of PCHS, is presenting a program titled Peters Colony & The Pioneer Settlers Of Texas. Learn about who and where these settlers came from and the trials and tribulations of traveling during this time period to settle in unknown territory. On October 11, 2004, Denne Sweeney will present a program on the Confederacy in Dallas. Denne is the current Vice President of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. I would like to take a moment to thank the officers for their efforts over this last year. Paul Price has been outstanding in his efforts to move our finances into the right accounts despite Washington Mutuals obstructionism. Lynette Jones, our library liaison, has completed the room reservations for our next year and coordinated the microfilming of the Metrocrest News. Ann Perdue has been wonderful as our secretary and editor of the 2004 Elm Fork Echoes. Sue Bucy is hard at work contacting and developing our future programs. Marilyn Hicks has done an excellent job of creating montage historical photographs of our meetings. Tom Ellis has done a fine job building and updating the PCHS website. Last I would like to publicly acknowledge the work Jan Jones, my wife, continues to perform in updating the membership roster, assisting with the Echoes, and helping me publish and send out the meeting reminders and other correspondence. Jan and I decided that we should do what we could to address the rapid drain on the societys finances. We donated about 40 Pioneer cookbooks to the society and so far have sold eleven copies at $10 each. We will have them available at our next meeting. The funds were used to cover the mailing of this years Echoes. The officers would like to call your attention to three meetings in this year. Our February meeting will fall on Valentines Day. Plans are in progress to make this a special meeting. In March and April, the Carrollton library has scheduled exhibits for the Environmental Classroom. Those meetings will be held at the JRL Meeting Room. Details will follow on the website and in future monthly letters. Yearly dues ($15) for non-lifetime members for the 2004-2005 membership year are due. If you have not already paid your dues, they may be turned in at the meeting or mailed to the attention of Paul Price at the address above. It is a privilege to serve this year as your president. I look forward to a great year together. Please come and be with us as we share fellowship. Warmly and sincerely, Richard Monroe President, Peters Colony Historical Society |
